Mersey Swing Smackdown Exchange 2016
The Mersey Swing Smackdown has, this year, grown into a full-blown Lindy Exchange! If you have been to any of our events before, you know that we love to have a good time and we are really looking forward to you seeing our lovely city of Liverpool! The Smackdown is a weekend full of dancing, competitions, live bands, sightseeing, and a heck of a lot of fun! Mersey Swing has never been strictly Lindy, so don’t be surprised if you see dancing or hear music that is out of the usual realms of Lindy Exchanges.
DJs and Live Music
Our first exchange promises to be an exciting event live music and amazing DJs.
Our Friday night event at Oh Me Oh My (where we held our first Winter Ball) will be a very exciting night. This event is hosted by our very own Compere, Cat Foley, accompanied by super star DJ, Laura Knight. Friday night is the night that we will be hosting our competitions including our infamous Group Showcase.
Saturday night at the historic Florrie will be once again, hosted by Cat Foley. Live Music will be provided by the great swing dance band, Blue Harlem! DJ’s will again see Laura and other friends.
On Sunday afternoon we have a local Scouser coming home to play for us. The David Broad Trio will be playing for us at the former Police Station on Lark Lane.
COMPETITIONS & SHOWCASE
Friday night will be the night of the competitions. You will see some serious Lindy Hop getting thrown down, particularly in the Group Showcase. We mean BATTLE STYLEY (think Step Up 2, but with more jazz and less rain). Do you have the courage to step up? (Silliness is encouraged.)
Competitions and Group Showcase will be:
1. Newbie Jack and Jill for those dancing Lindy Hop (in any dance role) 12 months or less.
2. Jack and Jill for those dancing Lindy Hop 13 months or more.
3. Group Showcase
· The group must contain at least 4 dancers a
· At least one of your group needs to have started dancing Lindy Hop within the last 12 months.
· Anything goes as long as there is a clear nod to Lindy Hop/Jazz or Charleston.
Competitions at the Smackdown are always light hearted and lots of fun.
Judges for the competition will be an eclectic mix. We will of course have the seasoned judges for the comps but we will also be having at least one judge from the audience on the night.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Friday Night: Oh Me Oh My is in the city centre and there are many car parks nearby. Lime Street Station, James Street Station and Moorefields are within walking distance.
Saturday, at The Florrie: Public transportation is available. Take the 82 bus from the City Centre and get off at the Tesco Extra on Park Road. Cross over the main road and head slightly back towards the direction the bus came from. Turn left at Beresford Road and walk down until you get to Mill Street. Take a right at Mill Street and the Florrie is on the right hand side on the corner of Wellington Road. We would recommend sharing a taxi back to the City Centre at the end of the evening if you are on public transport but the last 82 bus from Park Road is at 11.30pm. There is also on street parking nearby.
Lark Lane Community Centre: Public transportation is available to this site and there is plenty of on parking along the surrounding streets. Take the 82 bus from the City Centre and get off at the end of Lark Lane. Walk to the other end of Lark Lane and the venue is on the right.
What can/can’t I bring to the event?
Our venues on Friday and Saturday have cash bars and water stations. Please do not bring food or drinks of any kind into these venues. If you would like to eat prior event there are plenty of nearby restaurants.
Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
